PM Modi blames regional leaders for ‘extreme rhetoric’ over Kashmir

“The president conveyed the importance of reducing tensions between India and Pakistan and maintaining peace in the region,” White House spokesperson Hogan Gidley said in a statement.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a telephonic conversation with US President Donald Trump, said that ‘extreme rhetoric’ by certain leaders in the region was not conducive to peace, but he did not mention a single word regarding the atrocities on Kashmiri Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir, who are passing miserable life in curfew for the last fifteen days.

Despite the clear decision by the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) that Kashmir is not internal matter of India, Mr Modi blamed other leaders for the support of Kashmiri people.

“In a 30-minute phone conversation that saw the two leaders cover bilateral and regional matters, PM Modi also underscored the importance of creating an environment free from terror and violence and eschewing cross-border terrorism without exception,’ Hindustan times reported one side story.

India, he said, was committed to cooperate with anyone who followed this path, in fighting poverty, illiteracy and disease, the newspaper added.

Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Raja Farooq Haider has said the occupied Kashmir has been turned into a prison by the Indian authorities.

This he stated while talking to the US President’s Adviser Sajid Tarar in Islamabad on Monday.

Haider urged the US to play its role for resolution of Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council’s resolutions.

The AJK prime minister said Indian forces are targeting civilian population on the line of control. He said the Indian forces are using the banned cluster bombs.

Voicing concerns over the situation in occupied Kashmir, the AJK prime minister said the occupied territory has been turned into a prison by the Indian authorities.

White House Spokesperson:

United States President Donald Trump on Monday spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging a reduction of tension between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir issue.

“The president conveyed the importance of reducing tensions between India and Pakistan and maintaining peace in the region,” White House spokesperson Hogan Gidley said in a statement.

“The two leaders further discussed how they will continue to strengthen US-India economic ties through increased trade, and they look forward to meeting again soon.”
